In today’s tutorial I will show you how to use and apply 3D Reflection Mapping or Environment Mapping in DaVinci Resolve 16.
How to find a free Reflection Map or Environment Map or 360 degree HDRI image
You can use any kind of reflection map, which are easily found in the Internet.
You can just search for free reflection map and you will find a lot of them. You can also make your own reflection map.
Reflection maps can be also found if you look for 360 degree hdri images.
You can find the reflection map I use, here: https://www.deviantart.com/pumpkinman68/art/Warehouse-with-lights-805412525
Tutorial Explained
First, we define our 3D scene by adding shape 3d, merge 3d, renderer 3d and camera 3d nodes. To use a reflection map in DaVinci Resolve, we need at least one sphere map and a reflect node.
We can also use blinn node to define our material properties, like color and specularity.
After that, I show you how to add material to a 3D text, which differs a bit from adding it to a shape 3D. I bend my 3D text using the bender 3D node, to allow it to adapt more to the scene and also to be able to see the reflections much better.
Next, you will learn how to add two or more materials to a 3D object, by using the Material Merge node.
You will also learn how to find the pre made and free material shader templates in the effects library of DaVinci Resolve 16.
Then, I show you how to add multiple lights in the 3D scene. You will see how to add point lights and spot light.
We also add another sphere 3D node, which will be big enough to cover all of our other 3D objects. The outer sphere will serve as a dome to our original scene.
Finally, you will learn how to animate the camera 3D node in the DaVinci Resolve fusion page.
This is a DaVinci Resolve 16 tutorial, but should work with some earlier versions of Davinci Resolve.
