Why SMART BINS are so useful and how to use them in DaVinci Resolve 17

In todays tutorial we are going to see how to use Smart Bins in DaVinci Resolve 17.

What are SMART BINS?

SMART BINS are special kind of bins or folders in DaVinci Resolve 17 that let you group together different kind of media based on some criteria.

The criteria can be defined in the metadata of the media. In a smart bin you can group together media that share one or more metadata as a criteria. The metadata they share can be the keywords, the frame rate, the quality the resolution and many others.

So, basically you can add infinit numbers of criteria to be satisfied in order to have the media show in the SMART BIN.

You can choose whether the condition of SMART BIN filtering should match all the criteria or any. If you choose “All”, it means that all crtieria should be met and if you choose “Any”, it means that even if one condition is satisfied then the media will show up in the smart bin.

You can update the metadata of one media clip in the Media section of DaVinci Resolve 17.

It is also possible to edit, rename, delete and remove one Smart Bin in DaVinci Resolve 17.

If you choose the “Open As a New Window” option, then the smart bin will open in a separate window, which then you can move it in a second monitor.

Once you create the smart bin in the media section of DaVinci Resolve 17, it will be available in the Edit, Fusion and in the Fairlight page or section of DaVinci Resolve 17.

Smart Bins are very useful for better media pool organization in very large projects, where you have a large number of media files.
